Gýmeš Castle[1] (Slovak: Hrad Gýmeš, Hungarian: Gímesi vár, or rarely Slovak: Jelenecký hrad) is a castle ruin in the Nitra district in south-western Slovakia, approximately 5 km north of the village of Jelenec (Hungarian: Gímes). It stands on the south slope of the Tribeč mountain range.
History
[edit]The castle was presumably built in the mid-13th century by Ondrej from the Hont-Pázmány gens[2].
Similarly to other castles in the region, the Gýmeš Castle was occupied by Matthew III Csák in 1302.
