Aromia bungii is native to China, the Korean Peninsula and Vietnam.[1] The beetle has been introduced to Japan, it was first detected infesting various cherry trees and Japanese plum in the Aichi prefecture.[2] It is considered most likely the beetle was introduced on infested timber or wood packaging material.[2]

Hosts[edit]

Aromia bungii has been recorded infesting a wide range of Prunus species including American plum, apricot, cherry, cherry plum, common plum, Japanese bird cherry, Korean cherry, Japanese plum, peach, False cherry, Japanese plum cherry and Yoshino cherry.[3]

There are reports of other hosts in China, including persimmon, Diospyros kaki, Diospyros virginiana and pomemgranite, but the status of these species as hosts is uncertain.[1]
