Fonto is a document processor for structured documents. Fonto was originally launched as FontoXML although structured content authoring is more than just XML authoring. Fonto has been first released in early 2014. The most recent release is version 7.11[1].
Overview
[edit]Fonto is an online XML editor that has been designed for people with no knowledge of XML or any other technology that comes with structured content authoring. The experience is like an ordinary document processor like Microsoft Word or Google Documents although the formatting of the content is according to the structured XML schema. The schema is preconfigured and can be DITA,JATS or any custom XML schema.
History
[edit]Fonto became a separate product after Dutch internet company Liones build a structured content authoring tooling for several publishers in legal and regulatory. With specific knowledge of content management and user experience in mind, the software has been build from scratch. The main focus has always been on users that have no knowledge of XML but have to publish structured documents. Since content creation isn't the main job for most subject matter experts, the application should be intuitive and in line with the document processors, they are used to work with.
Usage
[edit]Fonto is used within a lot of different industries. From law and regulatory to publishing and from marketing departments to pharmaceutical companies. Main users are subject matter experts. Fonto offers OEM software that can be integrated into other solutions and suits.
