Morayo Awosola, (born in London, 21 January 1964), is the Secretariat [1] [2] of the Technical_Committees (TC) and Sub-Committees (SC) of the Organisation Internationale de Métrologie Légale (OIML) for Automatic weighing instruments TC 9/SC 2, Measurement of areas TC 7/SC 3, and joint Secretariat with the National Engineering Laboratory (NEL) for TC 8/SC 5 Water Meters.

His professional work concerns mainly international legal metrology and measurement applications, [3] [4] [5] which focuses on the development of OIML International Recommendations, which provide OIML Members with an internationally agreed-upon basis for the establishment of national legislation on various categories of measuring instruments.

Life and career[edit]

Morayo Awosola grew up in Lagos, Nigeria and was educated at the comprehensive school St. Thomas's Aquinas College [6] in Ondo State, Akure. He returned to London in 1984 and studied at Nottingham Trent Polytechnic (now Nottingham Trent University), where he obtained a second class honours in Manufacturing Engineering. He went on to complete his MSc in Industrial Measurement Systems at Brunel University. He currently lives in London where he plays table tennis & football locally and runs several blogs in his spare time.

In January 2010, his article Integration of Environmental Aspects into OIML Recommendations [7] was published in the Quarterly Journal of the Organisation Internationale de Métrologie Légale, OIML Bulletin. In it he explained how environmental thinking and sustainable development in legal metrology can be integrated in the development of OIML Recommendations in order to influence the environmental impact of the measuring instruments covered by these International Recommendations.

In July 2010, the OIML Bulletin featured another article by Morayo Awosola on its front page, Working across Cultures in Legal Metrology [8] In this article he explained the issues associated with working with multi-cultural OIML stakeholders and how to overcome them.

In January 2006, Morayo Awosola and Martin Birdseye, [9] jointly produced an article on Basic Requirements for Legal Metrology in Developing Countries, [10] which was subsequently published in the January 2006 OIML Bulletin. The article focused on the roles of metrology in the economy and considers the choices of what to regulate. It examines the benefits for trade in the context of developing economies and the potential for more general economic and social benefits.

Awards and honours[edit]

In 2006 Morayo Awosola became a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and Corporate Member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET).
