Your comment

"Please do not add new sources into an article under the title References or Bibliography." - that sounds a little too harsh, imho. Just forbidding another editor to do something doesn't feel like You are even trying to discuss the issue. Best, feydey (talk) 15:28, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

And what is this edit about? feydey (talk) 15:34, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
I suggest reading WP:CITE again especially #Further reading/External links. Thanks. feydey (talk) 15:44, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
From WP:CITE:
An ==External links== or ==Further reading== or ==Bibliography== section is placed near the end of an article and offers books, articles, and links to websites related to the topic that might be of interest to the reader. The section "Further reading" may include both online material and material not available online. If all recommended material is online, the section may be titled "External links".
All items used as sources in the article must be listed in the "References" or "Notes" section, and are usually not included in "Further reading" or "External links". However, if an item used as a reference covers the topic beyond the scope of the article, and has significant usefulness beyond verification of the article, you may want to include it here as well. This also makes it easier for users to identify all the major recommended resources on a topic.
So I think this is going well inside the given guideline. feydey (talk) 16:35, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

From above: A ... ==Bibliography== section ... offers books, articles, and links to websites related to the topic that might be of interest to the reader.

The reference I added "Dunn, James (1996). East Timor: A People Betrayed. Sydney: ABC Books." (and Taylor, John G. (1999). East Timor: The Price of Freedom) are all about East Timor (as clearly seen from the books' names), so where do I put the references if not under Bibliography?

"But, if there is a specific point in the article for which the books can used as a cite with a page number, then by all means do so." - this is about specific inline citations, and I'm not adding any of those. I'm adding "books related to the topic that might be of interest to the reader" under Bibliography as advised in WP:CITE. feydey (talk) 17:10, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

"Then put them under if "Further Reading" if you must, which is a dubious practice" - Yes "Further reading" is also usable in this case. I think You have a wrong understanding how "Bibliography" sections are used in Wikipedia, as earlier, I suggest reading "WP:CITE#Further reading/External links" again. Nowhere in WP:CITE does it say "If some material was not used to create the article You cannot ever put them in the article", but it suggests adding "books related to the topic that might be of interest to the reader" under Bibliography (or Further reading). I think this (Bibliography) also helps others to use the sources to actually write something with inline citations in the future. Best, feydey (talk) 17:37, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

More Eye Rolling

Spare me the I-love-my-city types! See BRI Tower and Heroic Monument [sic], or come to think of it [1]. How many of these do you think actually add anything to Wikipedia? Regards Davidelit (talk) 04:41, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

What do they add? Not much. Immediate reverts of anon work usually gets re-reverted. So, with Surabaya, I think it is best to come back in a week and remove the cr*p. Ie, the slow revert. If someone is spamming, we need to give them a few warnings, and then report it. Sorry - don't have much time right now. --Merbabu (talk) 05:20, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
And thanks for correcting my mispelling of "square" on 30 September Movement. I must bring those inline citations up to standard, i.e. with page numbers. Davidelit (talk) 13:07, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
Yeah - inline cites would be great. :-) But i know it is a bit of work. The heading format on wikipedia is to be in sentence case, except for proper nouns. So, for example a heading would be "The funeral of Suharto in big, smelly Jakarta". --Merbabu (talk) 13:13, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

I know about the sentence case convention now, but didn't when I wrote the article... Well, I've added the page numbers. Seems like a lot of work for a bunch of tiny little numbers. It took hours! :-) Davidelit (talk) 12:11, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

IOET

Well, the sources I was using were mostly from the early 90s, and it looks like yours followed through that decade. So I think we both painted accurate pictures of what happened. Perhaps we could finesse them together to show how Portugal's position evolved, mostly due to public pressure (which is a point where we agree, I think). I returned Taylor to the library, but I'll see what I can do this weekend. – Scartol • Tok 11:32, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Photo request

Hello - I noticed you have done some work on the Mosman/Cremorne area. If you are in the area, I was wondering if you have time whether you would be able to take photos of the Mosman area ferry wharves? I have one of Cremorne Point (although it isn't that good), but I'd love photos of Old Cremorne, South Mosman and Mosman Bay; alternatively photos of any of the Neutral Bay wharves would be great too. Any help would be much appreciated! Reply here. JRG (talk) 07:23, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Ok - I will see what I can do. Perhaps you could remind me closer to the weekend. It's only Monday now (groan). The article could do with a pic of Mosman Bay. You may have noticed that my opinion is the article has too many building pics - while missing iconic Mosman Bay.
Also, I was going to scan some old photos in but then saw that I needed to know that the original photographer has to have been dead for 70 years. The photos were from 1890 and 1915, so, assuming old age, then it is borderline likely but not definite. --Merbabu (talk) 07:29, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
The photos I want actually aren't for the Mosman article (though you're welcome to add one of them- perhaps a "Transport" section would be warranted) as I agree putting photos of all three Mosman wharves in the article would be going overboard with photographs. I'm trying to add articles on the ferry wharves in Sydney, and I need photos of all of them but I don't have many on the eastern side of the Harbour Bridge. So any help would be great. As for your old photographs, photos taken in 1890 and 1915 would be fine as the copyright Act in Australia changed in 2005 from 50 years after the taking of the photo to 70 years after the death of the author - so anything taken before 1955 is automatically out of copyright and is public domain (and usable on Wikipedia). JRG (talk) 06:10, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
Here's your reminder about the above. Thanks for any help you can give. JRG (talk) 12:34, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
