Philip Waley
[edit]Philip Waley is an acclaimed film and television producer with over 25 years of experience in the industry. He has collaborated with major studios including Legendary, Warner Bros, Fox, Netflix, Lionsgate, Sony, and Universal. [1]He is the founder of Shaken Not Stirred Production.[2], and a partner in a newly formed production company Harbor Wall, a newly established production company. While headquartered in Los Angeles, both companies maintain an active engagement in global productions.
Career
[edit]Philip Waley has had a lifelong passion for the film industry, starting from a young age. At 13 years old, he began his journey as a runner on a TV commercial for British Caledonian Airways. From there, he seized every opportunity to work in various areas of production, including TV news, commercials, and post-production. His dedication led him to pursue a BA Hons in Media Production at Film School in Dorset, England.
Waley's first significant professional experience was in the commercial industry, where he produced numerous commercials worldwide, and was awarded the Silver Lion in Cannes in 2000 for the "Vizir: Snow Blind" commercial. He spent 10 years working for the Grey Group as a European Producer[3], and left a memorable mark on his commercial endeavors with a week-long shoot with the McLaren Formula One Team in Barcelona, showcasing his passion for Formula One racing. Since then, Waley's career has been focused on feature films.
Waley is the founder of Shaken Not Stirred Inc, a production company based in Los Angeles that actively engages in a diverse range of film and TV projects. Furthermore, he is a partner in Baral-Waley, a full-service production company based in Los Angeles. In recent years, Joel Baral and Philip joined producer Richter Hartig, and together, the trio, with decades of studio, network, and indie experience between them, created Harbor Wall Productions to offer their considerable expertise and substantial resources to organizations preparing for productions worldwide.[4]
Within Shaken Not Stirred and Harbor Wall, Philip Waley is working on a variety of projects spanning different genres. In the midst of the Covid Crisis in 2020, they produced the indie feature film To Leslie, unveiling the story of a lottery winner who has squandered her winnings. Described as a 'sad, sweet country song of a movie, with a steel-guitar twang of love and loss,'[5] the movie brought Andrea Riseborough an Academy Award nomination for the lead role of Leslie.[6]
Currently, they are collaborating with Philip's old friend George Gallo on an action comedy in the vein of the movie Midnight Run, which Gallo will write and direct. Another project in the works is Oblivio, a psychological thriller slated for filming in the fall of 2023, and Anne Frank, which aims to bring to light the untold perspective of Anne Frank's extraordinary story.
In the TV World, they are developing The Great Forgotten, a cinematic period drama set in France and New York, showcasing strong female characters towards the end of World War I.
Presently, Philip Waley is the Executive Producer on the action thriller Den of Thieves 2, featuring renowned actors Gerard Butler and O'Shea Jackson, with filming taking place in the Canary Islands. The Movie is being produced by Tooley Entertainment and eOne. [7]
All of the projects share a common goal of telling true stories that are emotionally resonant, profound, and diverse. This emphasis on authenticity and depth aligns with Waley's core interests as a filmmaker.
In collaboration with HSL Studios, a prominent development, production, and distribution group in London and Los Angeles, Philip and Shaken Not Stirred have partnered to create a captivating slate of motion pictures, television films, franchises, and docu-dramas for the international market under the brand 'People Who Made a Difference.'
Within the television realm, Philip Waley has produced acclaimed works such as Joan of Arc for the Hallmark Channel, The Genius of Mozart for BBC Television, and several episodes of the award-winning series The Amazing Race. He has also served as a producer for the original Netflix series Best Worst Weekend Ever.
Waley maintains active memberships in both the Directors Guild of America (DGA) and the Producers Guild of America (PGA).
