Girevoy Sport, or GS for short, is the competitive sport of lifting kettlebells. Because the load to be lifted is submaximal, the competition is to see how many repetitions of a particular lift can be done in ten minutes without placing the kettlebells on the ground.
History
[edit]Events
[edit]The women's events are done with one kettlebell which is switched from one hand to the other at the five-minute mark. The men's events are done with two kettlebells.
Long Cycle
[edit]The Long Cycle event is the clean and jerk. The first move is to squat down and swing the kettlebells up from the ground to chest level, allowing the elbows to rest all of the weight on the iliac crest. The second move is to squat and then rise explosively, pushing the kettlebells up above the head, locking the arms out for a moment (also known as fixating the kettlebell). The kettlebells are then brought down to rest the elbows on the iliac crests again before swinging the kettlebells between the legs and bringing them back up again.
