Here are our changes to the Tervis Tumbler page:
Tervis Tumbler is a Venice, Florida based company that specializes in insulated tumblers.[1]
Tervis History
[edit]Frank Cotter and G. Howlett Davis, two engineers from Detroit, Michigan, created the first insulated tumbler. They used air as an insulating material between the two tumbler walls. [2] The brand name Tervis comes from combining the two engineers' last names (Cotter and Davis).[3]
The Winslow family purchased the Tervis Tumbler product rights in the 1950s. In 1967, they incorporated The Tervis Tumbler Company by moving the manufacturing to its current location in Florida. The Donelly family now operates Tervis Tumbler as a privately held firm.[4]
Tervis Tumbler has been in business for 65 years. [5]
Products and Marketing
[edit]The main marketing aspects of Tervis Tumblers are:
- All Tervis products are "made in the USA" (manufactured at its Florida factory).[3]
- Tervis Tumblers come with an unconditional lifetime guarantee.[3] Any Tervis Tumbler can be replaced free of charge. To replace a damaged tumbler send in the tumbler along with the replacement form (found on the company's website) to the address on the form. Shipping the damaged or defective item to Tervis is at the customer's expense; Tervis pays to ship the replacement item.
In addition to its in-house designs, Tervis has licensing agreements with all four of the major American sports leagues (MLB, NBA, NFL, and NHL), nearly all major NCAA colleges and universities, several Minor League Baseball franchises, all branches of the United States Armed Forces, and many notable companies such as John Deere, Coca-Cola and Disney. [5]
Custom designs are also available. These designs can either be supplied by the purchaser or designed by Tervis.[6]
Most of the company's designs are available in four primary tumbler sizes: 10 ounce, 12 ounce, 16 ounce, and 24 ounce; some products are also available in 10-ounce "wavy" tumblers (the "wavy" refers to the tumbler shape having a ribbed surface, the standard tumblers feature a flat surface) and 15-ounce mugs. In addition, the company sells "clear" (no design) 8-ounce tumblers and accessories such as lids and straws.[7]
Tervis Tumblers are equipped to hold both hot and cold beverages. They are microwave safe, dishwasher safe, and can go in the freeze. However designs that contain metallic thread are not microwave safe.[8] Tervis Tumblers are also BPA free. [5]
