Tiverton Baptist Church is a Baptist church in Tiverton, Devon, England. It was one of the first Baptist churches to be founded in England, being established by Dutch exiles in 1607.[1] These exiles were weavers who had travelled to England via Spain to escape anti-Christian persecution, settling in Tiverton as it was an important town in the wool industry.[2] Initially, the church was theologically aligned with Arminianism, but by the 1656 meeting of the Baptist Western Association, they were closer to Calvinism.[3] By 1769, the church had 66 members.[3] The current building is dated to 1876.[4] Formerly, the church's meeting house was built by Richard Haydon.[5]
