Nate Davis

[edit]

Nate Davis was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan on August 14, 1978. He was the 6th of 8 children born to Robert and Renon Davis, presently of Victorville, California.

Early Life

[edit]

Nate was raised for most of his childhood, on the family's farm in Ypsilanti. They lived at 8035 Whittaker Rd, in an old farm home on property given to a soldier of the Civil War as payment from the United States government for his services.

During his childhood, Nate had the good fortune of enjoying the company of many siblings. He was raised with six brothers (Ryan, Robert, Eldon, Timothy, Corey, and Andrew) and an older sister (Leanne). Their days were often spent riding their bicycles around the old country roads, and spending time at Rolling Hills Park.

Sudden Change

[edit]

In the Spring of 1991 the family made a huge change! Selling the family farm, they moved to the small micropolitan village of Republic, Michigan. They stayed there for a small time, renting a home owned by owner of the Andersen Window company, Ilona Andersen.

The home was located on 100 acres of wooded land, including a private lake and a river flowing through the property. What a wonderful place for a boy of 13 years and his siblings! This was shortlived, however, as another change unexpectedly was brewing.

California, Here we come!

[edit]

In the Spring of 1992, Nate moved again with his family, this time to the town of Moorpark, California. They moved there with the intention of staying a long time, but it appeared quickly, that someone else had bigger plans in store.

By the end of the School year, after all of the hoopla of 8th grade graduation was finished, it was time once again for the Davis family to move on. This time the family moved to the sleepy town of Sugar Loaf, California, a small town out side of Big Bear City, California in the San Bernardino Mountains. Everything seemed to be going well, and the family was so excited to begin life in this quaint setting. Once again though, it appeared as though there were different plans in store for Nate and his family.

A Quake Commeth

[edit]

On June 28, 1992 at 4:58 am, an earthquake struck the city of Joshua Tree, about 60 from Sugar Loaf. It was a magnitude 7.6 on the Richter Scale. At the time, it was enough to wake us up, and rattle our nerves, however nothing could have prepared us for what was to come. At 8:04 am on the same day we had another jolt. This time the quake was centered only 4 miles from our home. It registered 6.6 on the Richter Scale, but did enough damage to the home to condemn it. Nate and his family were homeless.

Due to the disaster, FEMA assisted the Davis' to move once again. This time it was like a homecomming. The family was moving back to Michigan.
