Many stories written about Native Americans are not accurate representations of American Indians. Literature about Native Americans is either stereotypical, romanticized, or primitive representations. (Reese, 2007) Native American Literature in the 21st century represents Native Americans in their present day context. Native American contemporary authors include Sherman Alexie, George Vizenor, Anton Treuer, Simon Ortiz, N. Scott Momaday, Joy Harjo, James Welch, Louise Erdrich, Eric Gansworth, Richard Van Camp, Joseph Bruchac, James Welch, Heid E. Erdrich, Lisa Charleyboy, Leslie Marmon Silko, Deborah Miranda, Erika Wurth, Cynthia Leitich Smith, Marcie Rendon, Luci Tapahonso, and Tim Tingle.
