Delivery Drivers are employees normally found in the lines of food and delivery services. They are responsible for delivering purchased goods to customers to provide the convenience of at home ordering.
Pay
[edit]Delivery Drivers pay is normally based off the states minimum wage. Much like waiter and waitresses they will normally be paid lower hourly wage as they are compensated with tips. For example in the state of Arizona minimum wage is $11.00/hr but drivers are paid $9.00/hr plus whatever tips they receive for that day. Typically tips are paid out in cash at the end of a driver's shift. Just like a normal paycheck all tips are taxed according to state laws.
Job Duties
[edit]Delivery drivers have the responsibility of taking and delivering purchased goods to the customers at the right place and time. Additionally they may be responsible to preform "in house" duties when there are no available deliveries. If working at a restaurant for example, drivers might help prepare food or clean while waiting for their next delivery.
Risks
[edit]Often drivers will be interacting with strangers. This poses a risk as the driver is alone and likely has little to no means of defending themselves if something is to go wrong. Drivers must always be aware of their surrounding especially when delivering late at night. Carrying a can of pepper spray is recommenced to fend off attacker. While attacking a delivery driver may seem pointless to some, realize that most drivers will have some amount of cash on them to distribute as change for cash orders, this is what makes them a target.
If a vehicle is not provided by the employer it will be the drivers job to provide one. Most delivery jobs will require this endless working for a larger company such as amazon or a mailing company such as FED EX. Keep in mind when using your own vehicle you will be putting more miles and this more wear and tear on your vehicle. Keeping your vehicle maintenance up to date is recommended.
Requirements
[edit]These are the minimum requirements for a delivery driver job (additional requirements may exist depending on employer).
-Valid State Driver License
-Personal Vehicle if not provided by employer
-Valid Vehicle insurance
-Phone or GPS to find delivery locations if not provided
