Ánna Yunírovna Urmántseva (from Moscow) is a Russian journalist and TV host. She is the author and the host of the program «Brainstorm» on the TV Centre channel. Anna hosts The «Popular science» segment and the project of the RIA News Agency “Scientific Monday”.

Biography[edit]

Anna Urmantseva was born in Moscow into a family of scientists. Her father - Urmantsev Yunir Abdullovich - a doctor of philosophy, candidate of biological Sciences, Creator of the version of the General Theory of systems (GTS). Her mother - Valentina Urmantseva - a molecular biologist.

As a child, Anna Urmantseva was sent to a music school and later graduated from the Moscow Conservatory, and then the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory.

In the late 1990s, she came to work on television — in the editorial office of the program «Good morning, Russia!» (RTR). Then she worked in the programs «Vesti» (RTR), «Culture news» (channel «Culture»), «Morning channel "Mood"» («TV Centre»).

In 2012, Urmantseva became the author and host of the program about science and high technologies "Brainstorm". As a writing journalist, she worked for the newspaper «Kommersant», «The New Times»[1] (2008-2010), «Discovery», and «Arguments of the week».

The first Russian robot TV presenter

In 2013, the company «Neurobotics» created a robot-TV presenter Tuma Urman, made in the form of a copy of Anna Urmantseva and, according to the creators, intended to eventually replace the host of the TV program «Brainstorm»[2][3]. Urmantseva herself expressed a desire to make a TV program that a robot can fully conduct.

In 2016-2017, she worked as the head of the Science Department of RIA News.

Since 2017, she has been working as the head of the Science and Technology Department of the Izvestia (Russian: Известия, IPA: [ɪzˈvʲesʲtʲɪjə]).

  • 2013 - Winner of the international business journalism competition PRESSЗВАНИЕ in the category "Respect for colleagues" [7].
  • 2013 - Winner of the all-Russian media competition "PRO Education 2013" in the category "Russian clusters: the best material dedicated to the development of modern forms of interaction between the training system, the scientific and industrial sector" [8].
