Albert Jan Verbeek (Arnhem, 27 april 1758The Hague, 20 november 1829) was a Dutch teacher, publicist, patriotic politician and governor in the Batavian Republic. In 1798, Verbeek took the initiative to found the National Library, that was later renamed the Royal Library of the Netherlands.

Family[edit]

Albert Jan Verbeek was a son of Albert Jan Verbeek (1718-1787), estate manager of the Burgerweeshuid in Arnhem, and Johanna Cannegieter (1722-1797), daughter of the historian Hendrik Cannegieter (1722-1297), dean of the Latin school in Arnhem.
