Esther Mary Mathison, wife of Henry Ephraim Mathison, was one of the original founders of Logan, Utah in 1859. As part of the first group of settlers sent by Brigham Young, her duties included nursing and care of the settlers' children. During a local cholera outbreak during the summer of 1862, Esther coordinated the care and convalescence of the church community. As a result of her efforts, she has been credited with the survival of the orginal settlement.
Esther and Henry gave birth to one son, Morgan Brigham Mathison, born August 4th, 1863.
