Lael-Anson Best MD FCCP, FACS, FRCS (b. August 11, 1951) is an associate professor of medicine at Technion-Israel Institute of Technology and Chair of the Division of Surgery at Rambam Health Care Campus.
Biography
[edit]Lael-Anson Best was born in India, August 11, 1951. He was educated at the Rajkumar College, Rajkot and he is the Alumnus-Ambssador to Israel . He completed both his Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine, 1975, and his Master’s Degree in Surgery, 1978, at B.J. Medical College, Gujarat University, India.
In 1979 he immigrated to Israel and specialized in cardiothoracic surgery at Rambam Health Care Campus in Haifa. In 1985, after qualifying as a Cardiothoracic Surgeon, he joined the Israel Defense Forces. From 1987-1988 Professor Best worked as a General Thoracic Fellow at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. [1]
Soon after his return to Israel, at the age of 38, he was appointed Director of the Department of Thoracic Surgery.[2] In 2005 he took over as Chair of the Division of Surgery.[3]
His special interests are surgery of the esophagus and trauma of the chest, lung cancer, pediatric thoracic surgery, surgery of the mediastinum, lung and pleura.
