Playfire is a social networking website focused entirely on videogames. The site is based in the United Kingdom.
It was founded in 2007 by friends Kieran O'Neill, Seb Hayes and Ben Phillips, after O'Neill sold his first project, the video streaming site HolyLemon.com, for $1.25 million.[1]
The site allows gamers from all over the world to connect with each other, through the usual social networking methods such as forums, profile comments and groups. It currently has over 250,000 registered users[2].
Playfire also features a PlayStation 3 Trophy Card creation service, which allows it's members to create a card similar to those displayed for the Xbox 360 on Xbox Live, which will track the user's trophy total throughout their PlayStation 3 game collection.[3]
Funding
[edit]In November 2009, Playfire secured a round of Series A funding worth $2.1 Million[4], from investors Atomico Ventures - a company set up by Kazaa and Skype founders Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis.[5]
