Current Project - Improve the article on Andy Irvine (musician)
[edit]Pdebee is currently working on the WP article about Andy Irvine. |
On 22 July 2013, I started updating the article on Andy Irvine (musician) and intended to complete the task within a few weeks. However, I soon identified the need also to create WP articles for many of his recordings. When it's all done, I'd like to aim for GA status and, if granted, then add a final 'end of job' update in the present section at my user page.
Project log
[edit]- Structure the article: add sections on Woody Guthrie influences and Commitment to social justice, and organize the Music Career section by decade, with sub-sections for each major project. ( Done)
- Expand all sections: provide factual details corroborated by reference citations from reliable, third party sources. To this end, I have used mainly Leagues O'Toole's The Humours of Planxty, Colin Irwin's In Search of the Craíc and my collection of Frets and Folk Roots magazines with articles on Irvine's various projects over the decades. ( Done)
I have also relied on Irvine's official website for 18 (14.63%) of the current 123 citations (116 of which I added since 22 July 2013), when no other source was available. [20 November, 2014 (UTC).] ( Done) - Reduce, to the strictest minimum, the number of quotations I initially added and apply, throughout the article, the WP standard of boxing all quotations > 40 words. ( Done)
- Also provide additional reference citations from reliable, third party sources in the form of links to online newspaper articles and reviews, when they provide useful content. ( Done)
- Add, retrospectively, the Retrieved on (date) tag to all notes and references containing external links. ( Done)
- Include, where possible, references to Irvine's sources for his choice of songs and tunes, such as his songbook (Aiming for the Heart), Sam Henry's Songs of the People, the Planxty songbook and the sources he mentioned in the sleeve notes of all his recordings. ( Done)
- Provide details on personnel and tracks for all Irvine's major recordings, except those (such as the Planxty albums) for which such details are already provided in their respective WP articles. ( Done)
- Add wikilinks to other, relevant WP articles. ( Done)
- Left a message in a new section of the article's Talk page, here, about the pronunciation of 'Irvine' and inviting responses to the idea of adding (or not) the same ref tag as currently found in the WP article about the town of Irvine, North Ayrshire:
- "Irvine (pronounced /ˈɜːrv[invalid input: 'i-']n/ IR-vin; Scots: Irvin, Scottish Gaelic: Irbhinn)". ( In progress)
- Add a collapsible Table 1 - Chronology of Andy Irvine's album recordings ( Done)
- Add a collapsible Table 2 - The songs and tunes of Andy Irvine ( Done)
- Add a new section, Summary of recordings, and nest the previous two tables under it. ( Done)
- Ask Chris Gualtieri for an independent assessment of the quality of the article. Chris upgraded it from 'Start class' to 'C'.
[26 December, 2013 (UTC)]. ( Done) - Ask Alison for assistance in providing photos for the article; no reply. [27 December, 2013 (UTC).] ( Done)
- Add many reference citations, particularly those difficult ones about Irvine's membership of the IWW and evidence of the claim that he donated part of his fee to the Shell-to-Sea campaign. Since 22 July 2013, I have now raised the number of reference citations from 7 to 110. [01:52, 30 December 2013 (UTC)]. ( Done)
- De-italicize all track names and set them between double quotations marks (e.g. "Track Name"), as per MOS:QUOTETITLE.
[29-30 December 2013 (UTC)]. ( Done) - Update the LAPD sub-section, by modifying the set list of their inaugural gig into a more compact list, like the text I contributed to the Planxty article today. [2 January 2014 (UTC)]. ( Done)
- Add a few more reference citations. Since 22 July 2013, I have raised the number of reference citations from 7 to 115. [3 January, 2014 (UTC).] ( Done)
- Ask Chris Gualtieri for another independent assessment of the quality of the article, given the updates I applied since his last review. Chris upgraded it from 'C-class' to 'B' on 3 January, 2014 (UTC). ( Done)
- Expand Planxty ("The Third Coming") section. [13-21 February, 2014 (UTC)]. ( Done)
- Add a Filmography section. [25 February, 2014 (UTC)]. ( Done)
- Add a Bibliography section, using the standard Wikipedia templates for book citations.
[26 February, 2014 (UTC)]. ( Done) - Change all occurrences of quotation boxes to use the quotation symbol: from {{quotation|...}} to {{cquote|...}}.
[23 May, 2014 (UTC)]. ( Done) - Add a few more reference citations since 3 January 2014. In total, I have now raised the number of reference citations from 7 to 123 since 22 July 2013. [20 November, 2014 (UTC).] ( Done)
