The Namibia National Reinsurance Corporation (NamibRe) is a government-owned reinsurance company in Namibia created by statute.
Overview
[edit]The mandate of NamibRe is to provide reinsurance services and to minimize the placement of insurance and reinsurance business outside the borders of Namibia.
Furthermore, NamibRe was created to become a vehicle for empowerment and enhanced participation by Namibians in the financial services sector of the economy.
History
[edit]NamibRe is a state-owned corporation established by an Act of Parliament, the Namibia National Reinsurance Corporation Act (Act 22 of 1998), published as Government Notice No. 224 in Government Gazette No. 1949 on 9 September 1998. [2] NamibRe became operational in September 2001.
