Manito manito (also known as Puff and the Pillpoppers) are a local Montreal indie band formed in 2005 by singer and songwriter Simon Bergeron. Since inception, the group has undergone several personnel changes. The band currently has 7 active members.
In 2008, the band released their debut Album entitled “set the world to flames”. The album featured forty two minutes of acerbic lyrical commentary peppered with moments of tender reflection, recorded most appropriately at their loft in the RCA building in Montreal. According to a radio interview with CHOQ FM, the group drew inspiration for their multi-era sound from the very atmosphere of this early 20th century factory once used to produce gramophone equipment. Three of their songs are featured on the documentary soundtrack of “Still Longshots”, premiered on Global TV’s “Global Currents” series. The band has since relocated to a church in NDG Montreal and in 2011 released 2 singles entitled “oceans” and “bisou”. The making of their second album was well captured in a compelling indie documentary entitled “Radioactive Sweet Peaches” produced by André Lai. The short film can be seen freely on YouTube.
