Sociedad anónima deportiva (translating as sports corporation) is a special type of limited liability company in Spain. The new legal status was introduced in 1990[1] to improve financial management and transparency in sports clubs. Many Spanish football clubs add the abbreviation S.A.D. to the end of their official name, eg Club Atlético de Madrid, S.A.D.. Neither Real Madrid or FC Barcelona hold S.A.D. status.
