Ella Alexandria Price (born March 20, 1997) is an American avant-garde filmmaker, industrial musician, and political activist.

Personal life

Price was born in Xenia, Ohio and grew up in the area, attending Wright State University in Dayton, where she graduated with a B.A. in film production in 2021. Price has said that Wright State's 2019 faculty strike, the longest higher-ed strike in the state's history, was a formative experience for her career as a political activist.

Price is a vocal communist and feminist, and has been a public supporter of many causes including antifascism, Black Lives Matter, reproductive justice, and the rights of LGBTQIA+ and disabled people.

She is a transgender woman who has identified as bisexual and queer.

Career

Price's work is known for its political and existential themes, as well as its controversial and graphic depictions of violence and religious imagery. Price's films frequently deal with themes of sexual abuse, trauma, mental illness, alienation, and climate change. Her visual style relies on closeups, shallow depth of field, and fragmented subjects. She frequently scores her films with industrial music.

Price is known for her continued collaboration with other creatives, including cinematographer Cait Rowe, writer-producer Andrew Grigiss, production designer Shelby Prenger, and actors Andrea Gutiérrez, Tristan Allen, and Michaella Waickman.

She has said that her cinematic influences include the films of Maya Deren, Tobe Hooper, David Lynch, Lynne Ramsay, and John Waters, as well as early Soviet cinema and classic Universal Studios monster films.
