Sheffield and District Junior League

The Sheffield and District Junior League, also known as the Rosehill Press Sheffield and District Junior Sunday League, was established in 1969 and operates in South Yorkshire, England. It has 850 teams playing football in teams ranging from the Under 7s to the Under 16s making it the largest football league in the country. These teams have, collectively, 12000 players registered. Football takes place across Sheffield and the wider South Yorkshire area.

In February 2010 the League was awarded the FA Charter Standard.

History

During the Summer of 1969, a gentleman by the name of Ken Sanderson contacted a number of people who were running junior football teams who could only play friendlies with a view to forming a league. A group of interested parties first meet at the Sacred Heart Hall, Hillsborough, Sheffield. A further meeting was held to form a committee and the divisions at Far Lees, Gleadless. At the meeting two divisions, ( Under 13 and Under 14) were created.


League Structure

The League hosts friendly mini soccer fixtures for Under 7 and Under 8. Mini Soccer is also the format used for the Under 9 and Under 10 age group. Under 11 to Under 16 is the standard eleven-a-side format. In the summer of 2010 the League operated a 9 v 9 League for the U10 age group progressing to the Under 11 age group. [1]
