From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Red Collar Worker Red Collar Worker refers to an existing class of workers that may fall into a variety of classifications, I.e. Blue Collar, White Collar, Green Collar etc. Red Collar refers to state-sponsored or state held(governmental) positions that are paid beyond what is feasible for any privately held business. Red Collar Jobs include state-workers, Senatorial, and some elected positions where the perks and benefits of the job are not commensurate with the actual "work" that is being performed.

Red Collar Workers ARE NOT necessarily socialist or communist via political affiliation. However those who hold and propagate these positions, can be considered anti-free market and dangerous to American long-term economic stability. Red Collar Workers exist in controlled market conditions, and fundamentally contribute and produce less than free market conditions would warrant for a privately held position.

Origin of the Term

Red Collar refers to the budgetary and financial implications of such positions that are fiscally unsustainable and put the budget in the "Red" as traditionally referred to in accounting as a debt or deficit. Red Collar workers are a systemic problem, and often exist in the form of entitlements and political appointments. While positions like this have often existed throughout history, the term is emerging with popularity as a result of increased transparency, and efficiency of communication that the internet provides.
