NITKRacing[1] is the official combustion Formula SAE team from India based at National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal, Mangalore. The team consists of 50 inter-disciplinary engineering students, who aim to design, fabricate and race a formula style car to compete in the FSAE events in India and abroad.

NITKRacing was formed in the year 2010; After successful runs at Baja SAE[2] series, it inspired the Baja NITK Racing[3] team to expand itself and compete in the Formula Student competitions. In the May of 2011, the team made its debut and first international appearance at FSAE Michigan, USA, where it represented India. It entered the event with its first ever formula car, the NRXII. The following year it participated in FS Hungary, where it finished top 10 in two of the major events. In 2014 and 2015, the team participated in FS China held at Xiangyang and was the only team representing India in the latter year.

Currently, the team is preparing itself for the upcoming Formula Bharat season, which is the biggest FS event happening in India.

In the May of 2020, NITKRacing introduced a new team called the NITKRacing Electric, which is in line with the team’s green initiative and its goals for a sustainable environment. Both the combustion and electric teams will be synchronously working together, sharing knowledge and resources to build cars that are both innovative and efficient. The following year, team management decided after a decade long run it was finally time to wrap up its combustion operations. From here forward NITKRacing will be focusing on developing electric formula cars, using the existing resources and experinces learnt from participating in combustion FSAE events.

Team Philosophy

[edit]

NITKRacings' ideology of 'Live to Race', forms the core mantra of the team. This belief is what keeps the team united, and at the same time motivates them to push the limits. The teams philosophy revolves around the same lines; Rising to challenges and working towards valuable and meaningful solutions has been a part of their DNA. Since their inception they have taken on challenges which had never been undertaken at NITK before. The team has always prided itself on being an amalgamation of critical engineering and entrepreneurship skills.
