Filon Feldruni (Mithwakil: Feilon Féldruoni; c. 630s AP – 697 AP) was a dark elven mercenary who lived during the early Midean period, in the years leading up to Gharthangs invasion of Yul. He gained notoriety during his lifetime as a skilled combatant and bodyguard, and because he was a dark elf who had substantial amounts of influence in courts all over Yul[1].

He also served as the ward and protector of Ayenne the Worldmender, from her birth up until his death.

Early life

[edit]

Filon was born Feilon Féldruoni around the year 630 AP, in an unknown village hidden in the Drond Peaks. The first possible mention of him was written during the 650s, when his name shows up in a number of letters written by King Oedthwyn of Charmatryx. It is however unclear if these records are referering to Filon Feldruni, as they could possibly refer to Filof, a known bandit whose conduct disturbed Charmatryxian trade with Andagulia.

The first certain mention of Filon was made in 659 by the chronicler Oel of Kyrek. During this instance, he was mentioned as having slain an assassin meant to kill Draggyw, king of Kyrek. It is possible that he already served as bodyguard at this point.

Wardship

[edit]

Sometime in the year 680 AP, Filon was given or took wardship over Ayenne the Worldmender. It is now almost universally accepted by scholars that she was the child of a mage, and that Filon was given wardship to protect her from the mass murder of mages edicted by King Karwygg of Dryggéd during the late 670s.

Disappearance and return

[edit]

Filons name appears again in chronicles dating to the years 695-696 AP, suggesting that this was when he and Ayenne returned to Yul. There has been a debate among scholars concerning if Filon and Ayenne were the ones carrying the warning of Gharthangs invasion, and recent studies have supported this theory[3].

Gharthangs invasion and death

[edit]

Filon joined with King Cwynndor of Dryggéd, and was present during the initial skirmishes of Gharthangs 696 AP campaign. He gained widespread acclaim by his contemporaries for orchestrating the Miracle at the Runemound, which proved important for the war effort of the allied realms. However, it was not enough and the allied armies were soon forced to flee through the Highlands to Choira's horn.

Filon was killed in single combat by Gharthang. Multiple sources cite that he was halting the advancing army of Gharthang, giving the allied armies time to retreat and flee by sea. His body was mutilated, and his head was thrown into the Reykne Sea.
