On behalf of our version of New Girl (TV series), the work will target mainly on the sections of Plot, Cast and Characters, Episodes, Production and Critics.The sandbox is used as where we place our rough works.All the groups talks are linked to my Talk page at the bottom of the page as means to keep organized.

General Information

New Girl is an American television sitcom that premiered on Fox on September 20,2011.It stars Zooey Deschanel starred also as "Summer Finn" in (500) Days of Summer, Jake Johnson stars also as "Eli" in No Strings Attached (film),Max Greenfield stars also as "Nick Pepper" in Ugly Betty, Lamorne Morris stars also as salesperson in episode " Royal Wedding" of The Middle (TV series) and Hannah Simone stars also in episode " A Tale of Two Parties" of Beautiful People (US TV series).On September 28,2011,after two episodes aired, Fox ordered an additional 11 episodes to the initial 13-episode order, bringing the first season to 24 episodes. New Girl has received favorable responses from critics since its conception, with many giving particular praise towards Deschanel's performance.On December 15,2011, the show was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy and Deschanel was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy.

Plot

The pilot starts the story with Jessica "Jess" Day starred by Zooey Deschanel, a bubbly , offbeat, adorable ,eccentric woman in her late 20s who teaches at local middle school.She is vulnerable when it comes to trust where she believes people all have good hearts.She is adorable in an unconventional way that she often do things oppositely comparing to what is normal. On a trip back from other city , she prepared a surprise for her beloved boyfriend while she caught him cheating in their house. She realizes that their six years relationship is jeopardized due to his unfaithfulness. She is determined to move on from her unfortunate relationship,thus moves out and starts looking for new place. An ad on Craiglist saves her from the misery where she meets and moves in with three young men:Nick, a bartender,who is originally from Chicago.Before he become a bartender,he once had big plans for his future. At one point, he is bent on becoming a lawyer,somehow he stopped caring along the way and dropped out from law school in the end.He deeply admired for class and been always wanting to be among "the rich ones". Ironically, he is the poorest guy among all roommates who could not even afford a cellphone; Schmidt, a white-collar, young professional is such a womanizer who fancies himself as the wishful,modern-day Casanova. He is madly in love with himself who also happens to have sever Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder in terms of cleanness and organization.He often schemes plans to climb the social ladder and is driven by his obsessive urge of becoming "the center". He insists on bringing Jess into the loft viewing Jess as the elusive female mind ,also in ways to get close with Jess's model friend Cece.Schmidt often cause roommates' hatred and disgust due to his unexpected despicable behaviors.Nevertheless, they share good friendship;and Winston,a former basketball player who happens to be Nick's best friend from childhood.Winston originally was the fourth roommate living in the loft.After coach starred by Damon Wayans, Jr. left the apartment, Winston moved back in.Winston is an intensely competitive former athlete who doesn't know what to do next, but whatever he does, he wants to win it like arguing with Schmidt for the " Top Dog" room which was his before he moved out. He was most recently a point guard in the Latvian Basketball League. He currently entitled as " Part-time Nanny" employed by Schmidt's boss who he met at a company party. Winston loves his life and lives his life to the fullest.But his ambitions somehow gets in his way that he gets grumpy when he does not win;lastly, Jess's best childhood friend Cece, a street-smart friend/model.Cece is such a diva and gets lots of attention form guys, somehow, She falls for "good-looking" but" not-so-smart" bunch.She values her friendship with Jess to be the most important and she supports Jess no matter what. 1. Jess, played by Zooey Deschanel, is a free spirit. She acts according to her hearts content; usually, in unconventional ways. Her behaviour does not reflect social norms, which ends up making her look weird but her quirkiness loveable and charming. Jess is genuine and kind-hearted. She is imaginative and naïve, much like a child. She opens herself up to everyone and easily trusts which tends to put her in a vulnerable position. 2. Nick, played by Jake Johnson is somewhat of a pessimist. Many things in his life have discouraged him. He likes to play it safe, but in small ways he continues to make an effort to try new things and is not completely defeated. He has the traits of a family man, which is seen in how he takes care of his friends. Nick is the most mature, compared to Schmidt and Winston. 3. Cece, played by Hannah Simone is feisty and has a tough demeanor. She appears to be confident and knows how to get what she wants. Underneath her cold front, she is a sweet person. Cece is very protective over Jess, whose innocence sometimes poses as a hazard to herself. On the other hand, Cece is the critical onlooker. She teaches Jess Street smarts and always supports her. 4. Schmidt Schmidt as Max Greenfield is one of Jess’s new male roommates. Schmidt is the so-called “douchebag” of the group. He is a young professional eager to climb the social ladder. He is the only male employee in his company and is often mocked by his female coworkers. He considers himself a lady’s man, although his heart is in the right place. He lives in a loft with Nick, Winston, and Jessica Day. Coach was his former roommate in the first episode before Winston came back from playing professional basketballi n Latvia. 5. Winston Winston Bishop as Lamorne Morris was the former roommate that left to play professional ball in Latvia. He is one of Jess’s new roommates who appears in the 2nd episode. He is the original roommate who left room for Jess to move in. Winston is completely unaware of what has happened in the United States within the past two years. He is a fan of ducks, even going to the extent of putting ducks on his Wikipedia page. According to himself he is a fast learner as he uses this talent as his way of explaining how he plays bells so well. Winston is very competitive, having an ability to pick up new skills with minimal effort. 1. Jess makes an effort to improve her relationship with Spencer, but her plans were interrupted by an unpleasant surprise (tvrecaps). After confronting her boyfriend’s infidelity and ending their long-term relationship, Jessica "Jess" Day (Zooey Deschanel) searches for a new apartment and ends up moving in with three bachelors, Schmidt (Max Greenfield), Nick (Jake Johnson) and Coach (Damon Wayans, Jr.). At first, the guys were reluctant to accept Jess in the loft because she presents herself as quite a nuisance. The guys accept her into their home, but at the same time they try to keep Jess out of the apartment as much as they can by pushing her back into the dating life. Ironically, throughout all of this, they begin to develop a liking towards Jess. After Coach leaves, the original fourth roommate Winston starred by Lamorne Morris returns and attempts to manipulate Schmidt into switching rooms since Schmidt now occupies Winston's original and larger bedroom. Jess accidentally breaks the television after a spontaneous living room basketball game; Nick and Schmidt try to convince Jess to retrieve her TV (to replace the one she broke) and personal belongings from the house she had shared with her now ex-boyfriend. She tells the boys that she will do it, but Jess keeps finding ways to avoid it. 3. Nick is worried that he will run into his ex-girlfriend, Caroline starred by Mary Elizabeth Ellis, at a mutual friend's wedding which the guys were invited to. Nick asks Jess to be his date/pretend girlfriend for the occasion, with the hope of making Caroline jealous. At the wedding, Winston takes his job as usher far too seriously and gets inappropriately competitive . Schmidt attempts to woo his high-school crush, Brooke starred by Katie Cassidy. 5. After breaking up with her boyfriend, Cece convinces Jess to let her stay at the loft. Flustered by the presence of the beautiful model, the guys forget how to function. Schmidt desperately strives for Cece’s attention and she takes advantage of her power. Though on Cece’s last night, they end up in the same bed (tvguide). 6. Jess develops a crush on her colleague, Paul (Justin Long) (imdb). In conversation, Paul reveals that he usually spends Thanksgiving with his Nana but she recently passed away. So, Jess invites him over her place for Thanksgiving dinner, which she sprung on her roommates. The gang welcomes Paul, except for Nick; Jess encourages her roommate to get to know her date. With no skills in cooking, Jess convinces Schmidt to cook the whole dinner. Cece playfully triggers his OCD and flirtatiously teases an oblivious Schmidt (tvrecaps). 7. As a fun alternative, Jess convinces her students to learn how to play hand bells rather than sitting through detention. Winston gains an interest towards Jess’s band, but is consumed by his competitive edge. Jess becomes jealous of his natural talent (msn), but is more concerned about his negative attitude. Episode 9: The 23rd

The episode starts off with Nick, Schmidt, and Winston talking about their plans for Christmas, as Jess comes in asking them for help on figuring out what to give her boyfriend Paul for Christmas.The group of friends all head over to Schmidt's holiday party where Schmidt is dressed as a Sexy Santa. Nick accidentally tells Paul how Jess feels about him, Jess and Paul's relationship ended since it was not meant to be. Winston ,on the contra, was on the hunt for a job. Cece was weighing her options on Schmidt who personally send her a custom-made perfumes and her jerk boyfriend. Then Nick, Jess, Winston, Schmidt, and Cece head over to Candy Cane lane to see the holiday lights. Episode 10: The Story of the 50

Schmidt wants to have a really good bus party for his 29th birthday party, but is saddened at the fact that he is unable to accomplish his ideals. Jess then tries to give Schmidt the birthday party he wanted by getting the help of her vice-principal. Nick also has his first date with a beautiful lawyer with a secret during Schmidt’s 29th birthday party. This all occurs as the whole gang argue about whether Schmidt should place a 50 dollar bill in the “douchebag” jar, as they reminisce about what happened during Schmidt’s 29th birthday at the beginning and end of the show.--MarydelaRosa (talk) 03:00, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

Episode 11: Jess & Julia

Nick’s new lawyer girlfriend Julia helps Jess fight a traffic ticket but it results in a fight between the two girls. Nick also panics when Julia does not want to put a label on their relationship. Episode 12: The Landlord”

Jess’s faith in people has finally proven to be wrong . She tries to make friends with the quirky landlord which against Nick’s will, but she does so anyways. The episode begins with a jammed garbage disposal which calls upon for quick fixes. Like usual , Nick does it the DIY way but fails to work.Jess then calls for help from the landlord but accidentally spilled in-tells that there is a fourth roommate live in the apartment which is against the loft rules. Jess talks Remy into having a home-made dinner at their loft in return of making up the mess and fixing the apartment, also as a gesture of making friends with RemyJeff Kober. Episode 13: “Valentine’s Day”

It’s Valentine's day, Jess , newly-single, asks help from the roommates to help her finding a guy to have a one-night stand.A guy at the bar , starred by Ryan Kwantentook Jess home for the night but was interrupted by the sudden appearance of his ex. Nick planned to have Valentine’s day with Julia but spending the entire night with Julia’s assistant at Julia’s office instead. Cece, meanwhile, tries to help Schmidt tantalize and auburn-haired beauty over at the bar. At the back of the room in their apartment, they finally get it on. Episode 14: “Bully”

In this episode, Jess confronts a bully in her class who has zero patience and tolerance.Her names is Brianna starred by Joey Kingwho sabotages her classmate’s science fair work.Jess somehow ended up as a target.Winston reveals his own past as a bully in order to help Jess on such matter. Cece and Schmidt continues their late night meetings.Unlikely of admitting it, Cece refuses to introduce Schmidt to her model friends.While Julia is away for her business trip, she sent Nick a cactus as gift, which Nick is suspicious about that he thinks Julia is ending their relationship.(It did end) --Sagew (talk) 08:12, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

Episode 15

This episode all starts with the game of football at the park where Nick was badly injured from Jess’s unintentionally “attack”. Nick refuses to see the doctor for his concern of not having insurance(In the end, all group members come up with the money to cover the treatment cost). Jess persuades Nick to see her friend/OB/GYN SadieJune Diane Raphael for treatment of the injuries.However,Sadie diagnoses a much sever disease Nick seems to carry and possibly fatal news to the group . The night before the scheduled ultra-sound, all friends gather at Nick’s workplace, later at the beach, in means of supporting Nick. Cece and Schmidt develops a more emotional relationship along the way.As the test came back negatively, Nick is just fine (far from dying). Episode 16: “Control”

Schmidt’s OCD is getting in Jess’s way when Jess picks up a cupboard from the street and places at the loft.As to change Schmidt for good (Jess believes so), Jess takes Schmidt to the boardwalk to experience ,to be spontaneous as means to learn “how to let things go”. She changed Schmidt in a way, however, the apartment is unorganized without Schmidt's help on the matter of cleaning the loft space. Jess apologizes and take Schmidt as who he is in the end. At the same time, Cece and Schmidt continues their "sex meetings". Nick and Winston was having arguments over the poker money Nick owes to Winston.--Sagew (talk) 08:12, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

Episode 17: “Fancyman (Part 1)”

Jess confronts one of her student’s parent-Russell starred by Dermot Mulroney on the child’s priorities issue.She reports to her boss , but it did not rise vice-principle's attention since Russell is one of the biggest donator to the school.Jess carries the stereotype of thinking rich people are generally not nice.Quite on the contra, she changed her mind in the end when Russell offers his car(Her car broke down) and invites Jess to his party at his place. Eventually ,Jess falls for Russell by agreeing a date with him. Meanwhile, Nick gets a free phone from Russell though he has never intended of owning one.(Mainly because he has low credits). Winston’s ambition shows more clear in this episode where he competes with Schmidt by proving to Shelby that he knows more facts than Schmidt does.--Sagew (talk) 08:12, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

Production

Liz Meriwether is one of Hollywood’s most desirable female screenwriters; her well-known film No Strings Attached brought a lot of attention for her new TV series.

In development, the show was provisionally titled Chicks and Dicks, which was temporary used as the title for its description and guideline of the storyline, but then it grew more attention on Jess starring Zooey Deschanel, considering as the main female character, and less about the situations going on between Jess’ roommates, which then after changed the title to “new girl”. The original plots, production and cast had some slightly changes, reshot, retooled, and recast before it went on air, and the final product might be much different. The series went on air Tuesdays at 9pm starting on September 20 on Fox, and also on E4 in the UK and Citytv in Canada.

The TV series’ purpose uses the similar movie storyline plot to form an interesting new twist on the same old romantic comedies seen frequently. With all celebrities’ actors and actress casts, the TV series became one of the most popular and discussed topic. Zooey Deschanel brought a lot of attention for this show, since her movie career is so successful in the past few years. The casts are so strong since it starred with a popular leading actress, and the show proved that Deschanel is the perfect person for this position. When asked to join the team, Deschanel was questioned if she had any hesitation, but Deschanel replied that she love the work with the team and Jess is definitely the character she would play forever.

The production slightly changed after Wayans left, Meriwether says that the final product needs to reshoot 80 percent due to the leaving of Wayans since he was in one of the leading role of the show and Meriwether, 20th century fox and the studio required to keep the characters and the plot as it was. After reshoot, Morris will join the show in the second episode of the series, and despite Wayans’ absent, he will only shows up in the first episode of the series, then carry on the character by Morris. --CHU.ROSE (talk) 15:13, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

Critics

Critics stated that the show’s plot development was too obvious and seems rushing when making changes for the main character. The character changes from someone who is quirky into someone who is trying too hard to be totally different than before. Even though the show’s plot is an ideal example for the audience, which is one girl living with three considering ideal men roommates. However, the show is over exaggerated and the genre is too general. The story is overly ordinary and commonly seen in other films. The show failed to use the famous power of Deschanel to played something new and unique instead of an ordinary and old story. The producer Meriwether was asked if the show was written for Deschanel specifically, because Deschanel suited the character well and the audience approved.
