"Muse fans' boycott" is a protest that was organized by Ukrainian fans of Muse and has a goal to reduce prices for tickets to the show in Kiev.
Muse, a British alternative rock band, expanded The Resistance Tour adding three live shows - one in Ukraine (Kiev) and two in Russia (Moscow and St. Petersburg)– in May 2011.[1]
The price for the tickets in Kiev varies around 800 UAH (equals $100 or €71) and goes up to 1,100 UAH (equals $140 or €98). [2][3]
Ukrainian Muse fans, disagreeing with prices, started boycott in social networks (Facebook boycott group has more, than 2,000 people, who joined the protest).[4] The main reason for disagreement, as fans stated in their video appeal, is that they can’t afford it.[5] The average salary in Ukraine is 2,297 UAH (equals $290 or €204) and students’ scholarships are 626 UAH (equals $79 or €55).[6]
Protesters contacted the organizers of Ukrainian Muse show – Russian concert agency "Melnitsa Inernational" – with the request to lower tickets' price, but the agency refused it officially next day in an interview to Open Music.[7] As stated on a web-site fans created about the boycott, they found the refusal article "humiliating and deforming the real idea of protest".[8] Fans' response was published at Nash Kiev on March, 9th.[9]
During the period of two months or more Ukrainian fans have been writing letters to various Mass media. Their videos and photos as an appeal to Muse band were posted on a new web-site created to help those who was against inflated prices for the concert. But fans’ appeal was heard only after telephoning to Muse’s management. A week later Ukrainian musers got a desired feedback. It was a long-awaited Victory! The limited set of tickets ($37,64 €26,25 per ticket) has appeared for distribution According to Muse request. The tickets were sold by a special line provided by the official Muse site.[10]
