Rankwal or rainkwaar is a gurjar clan or gotra with a strong historical background the people of this clan claim to be descendents of king Vijaypal and Jaypal. Majority of these people live in karauli district of Rajasthan,northen Madhya pradesh and meerut in Uttar pradesh. There are a lot of mythological stories tracing their origin. People of the rankwal subcaste took active part in the agitations supporting gurjar reservation during 2007-2011 with a few people sacrificing their lives for the cause. People in karauli district fulfill the criteria of being regarded as scheduled tribes with agriculture and animal husbandry as their main occupations.They follow a rich gurjar tradition that avoids 3 clans or gotras during marriage (namely:own gotra,mother's and grand mother's gotra)marriage cards are not given within the village during marriages instead personal invitation is provided for the village of the same people.
