Ryker Evans (born December 12, 2001) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenseman for the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL). Evans was selected 32nd overall in the 2nd round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft by the Seattle Kraken. Prior to signing an entry-level contract with the Kraken in April 2022, Evans played for four years with the Regina Pats of the WHL.

Early Life and Family[edit]

Evans was born on December 12, 2001 in Calgary, Alberta. His father, Mike Evans, played hockey for the University of Massachusetts and for teams in the Western Professional Hockey League and Germany. Ryker's sister Peyten plays for the Notre Dame Hounds of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. At age eight, Evans wrote a school essay about his desire to be a hockey player.[1]

Charlotte Checkers[edit]

On July 23, 2021, Evans was selected 32nd overall in the 2nd round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft by the Seattle Kraken. After the conclusion of the Pats' season, on April 22, 2022, Evans and the Kraken agreed to terms on a three-year entry-level contract, to begin with the 2022-23 season.[2] Evans then reported to the Kraken's AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers, in time to practice with the team prior to their defense of the previous year's Calder Cup championship.
