Véronique is a French liquid-fuelled sounding rocket that was developed partly by German scientists who worked in Peenemünde. The Véronique was built between 1950 and 1969 in several versions, of which the versions P2, P6 and R were only experimental models. They were made in Vernon, Eure. The name Veronique is an abbreviation for Vernon et electronique (English: Vernon-electronic)[1]
History
[edit]In 1949 with a help of around 90 German rocket engine experts French begun a development of the first version of the Véronique in the Laboratoire de recherches balistiques et aérodynamiques (H2K; English: Ballistics and Aeronautical Researches Laboratory) in Vernon.[2]: 15 Originally designated Project 4213, the first variant, Véronique R, for Reduced, was 6 meters tall with engine burn time limited to 6.5 seconds instead of planned 32 seconds for the nominal variant.[3] Series of test launches begun from the military camp in Suippes, north-eastern France, on 2 August 1950. Additional launches took place from the Le Cardonnet military camp in Aumelas.[4]
