Pierre-André Zappella (born 25 October 1947) is a retired Swiss footballer. He is perhaps best known for his time playing with FC Lausanne-Sport where he helped the club to a second place finish in the Ligue Nationale A in back to back seasons in 1968–69 and 1969–70.
Club career
[edit]Zappella first began his footballing career at FC La Chaux-de-Fonds, spending three years at the club and establishing himself as a goal scorer. Prior to the 1968–69 Ligue Nationale A, he transferred to Lausanne-Sport and would go on to feature prominently for the club in the coming years.
International career
[edit]Zappella earned his one and only full cap for Switzerland on 14 February 1968, coming on as a substitute against Israel in a 2–1 away loss in Jaffa.[1] Prior to that, he had also featured and scored against Israel as part of a Switzerland B team which won 4–0 at the Charmilles Stadium in Geneva on 22 October 1966.[2]
Retirement
[edit]During his football career Zappella attended both the University of Neuchâtel and the University of Geneva in order to obtain a degree as a dentist, opening his office in Lausanne in 1976 following his retirement from the sport.[3]
