In the midst of a fairly strong recession, the "value" is key for buyers and J/Boats introduces the J/22 and J/35.
The J/35 was a derivative design from the successful J/36 fractional rig boat. The primary differences were the stripped out racing interior and the masthead rig for the J/35. In short, the J/35 became one of the most successful offshore keelboat one-design classes in recent history with over 350 boats built—winning offshore sailboat races all over the world- Hong Kong, England, Holland, Italy, Australia and Argentina.
The J/22 was introduced as an affordable version of the J/24 and was designed as a sailboat that could be crewed by just three people, easily handled by women and virtually ramp launchable.
In its first year of introduction, the J/22 wins Class at MORC Internationals. Since then, the J/22 became an International One-Design Class, recognized worldwide by the ISAF (International Sailing Association Federation), the governing body of the sport of sailing worldwide. It has become a training boat for many women's sailing teams, including its use as part of ROLEX's International Women's Keelboat Championships (see http://www.riwkc.com).
