Jonathan Conricus, Hebrew: ג'ונתן קונריקוס, born in 1979 in Jerusalem, is an Israeli Lieutenant Colonel who served as the international spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces in the fall of 2023. This coincided with Hamas's attack on Israel in October of the same year.

Biography

[edit]

Conricus was born in Jerusalem to a Swedish father and an Israeli mother. A few months later, the family moved to Malmö, Sweden, first to Hyllie and then to Djupadal. Conricus spent the next 13 years in Sweden before the family returned to Israel. He began military service at the age of 18 and worked in the Israel Defense Forces until 2021.

Conricus has also worked for the United Nations and was a liaison officer for the UN peacekeeping forces in Lebanon and the Golan Heights in Syria. He spent some time at the United Nations headquarters in New York, USA.

In October 2023, when Hamas attacked Israel, Conricus was called up as a reserve officer to serve as the international spokesperson. Conricus has been seen, heard, and mentioned in international media such as Bild, BBC, ABC (USA), Sveriges Television, CBS News, Deutsche Welle, Dagens Nyheter, Svenska Dagbladet, CNN, and Australian ABC.
