Martin Anthony Rubalcaba (born March 21, 1967) is an American professional wrestling referee who has worked for WWE. He is currently working for Lucha Underground as the senior official as well as behind the scenes..
History[edit]
Training[edit]
Marty Elias started training in late 1995 / early 1996 at the School of Hard Knocks in San Bernardino, California. He was trained by Bill Anderson and Jesse Hernandez, 3 nights a week, for 2 years.
UPW, Zero One, WWA[edit]
Starting out as a referee in UPW, Elias was able to work his way up to head writer and finally booker. While in UPW, he got to work with the Road Warriors, The Hardy’s, Gangrel, Taka Michinoko, John Cena, and many others. He also refereed in Japan for Hashimoto’s Zero One promotion and for World Wrestling All-stars (WWA) which later became TNA.
World Wrestling Federation/Entertainment/WWE (2006-2009)[edit]
Elias worked a dark match in 1997 in New York. His main goal as a referee was to be the “Shawn Michaels” of referee’s. His first pay-per-view appearance was WWE SummerSlam 2006 in the Hulk Hogan Vs. Randy Orton match. He's most known for being apart of the Shawn Michaels Vs. The Undertaker match at the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania. He was released from his contract in August of 2009.
Empire Wrestling Federation/EWF (2011-present)[edit]
In early 2011, EWF Commissioner Frank Mott was unable to keep up with his duties and appointed Marty Elias the title of Deputy Commissioner. As Deputy Commissioner, Marty Elias helps keep order in the Empire Wrestling Federation. Behind the scenes, he helps with training and promos as a road agent.
Lucha Underground[edit]
Elias now appears as the Senior Official Referee for Lucha Underground on the El Rey Network.
Personal life[edit]
Marty Elias has been married to his wife, Suzanne, for 26 years and they have 1 child together, Shandi. Outside of wrestling, he works for Global Merchandising Services, who's clients include Alice Cooper, Beyonce, Elton John, Rob Zombie and Mötley Crüe. He has also freelanced as a PA, production and merchandising coordinator for Revolver Magazine and has toured with the Mayhem Festival.
In his spare time, he collects "imprinted" guitar picks and roughly has 8,000 pieces. He is also a big fan of 80's metal bands and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
