The 2018 PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup is the first conference of the 2017–18 PBA D-League season. For the first time in the tournament history, eleven school-based teams will compete for the championship, making it a total of 13. After four games, Mila's Lechon Mighty Roasters withdrew from the league due to internal problems. This move by Mila's Lechon reduced the number of teams to 12. All games will be aired via ESPN 5 on AksyonTV on a delayed basis.[1]

Format[edit]

Format updated after the withdrawal of Mila's Lechon:

  • Thirteen (12) teams will play in a single round-robin elimination round. Each team will have 11 games for this round. Teams will be seeded based on win-loss records.
  • If ties are present, then FIBA rules shall be applied.
  • After the elimination round, the following scenarios for the playoff shall be applied below:
    • Only the top 6 teams will qualify for the playoffs, and the six teams with the worst records shall be eliminated.
    • The top two seeds will earn an outright semifinal berth, While the next four teams will undergo in the quarter-finals.
    • In the quarter-finals, the 3rd and 4th seed will earn a twice-to-beat advantage. There, the matchup will be as follows:
      QF1: 3rd seed vs. 6th seed
      QF2: 4th seed vs. 5th seed
    • The two winners of the quarter-finals will advance to the best-of-three semifinals. Matchup is as follows:
      SF1: 1st seed vs. QF2 winner
      SF2: 2nd seed vs. QF1 winner
    • Then, the two semifinal winners will compete for the best-of-three championship series.
