Johnathan Lawrence Harmon (born October 17, 1984), better known by his stage name The Real Laww or simply Laww [1] , is an American hip hop performing artist, rapper, Marine, producer, songwriter, and engineer from Durham, North Carolina. The Real Laww was born in Trenton, New Jersey raised in Lexington, Kentucky, then moved to Durham, North Carolina. Joined the Marines in 2007 and within 4 years earned the rank of Sergeant. The Real Laww began his music career in 2003 when he started working with Thunda Pound aka Centerpoint out of Raleigh, North Carolina, where he started to record his first pieces of original music.

The Real Laww's music is described as a deep commanding voice blended with catchy Pop, hard Hip Hop, Electronic Dance with the most important ingredient... Lyricism.


Music Career[edit]

The Real Laww has worked on various projects with the Thunda Pound aka Centerpoint's 11 man team such as Point Made 2007 and The Bums: Likes This 2009. In 2009, before being deployed to Iraq, The Real Laww released his first Solo project: A Mix Tape Vol 1. Then in 2010, after returning from a success deployment in Iraq and before being deployed to Afghanistan, The Real Laww released his second Solo project: A Mix Tape Vol 2. where songs like “Sweatin” and “Future” were played in clubs in North Carolina and Atlanta and received some radio time in Milwaukee and various internet radio stations.

After almost a year hiatus, it wasn't until Late 2011 when The Real Laww teamed up with Professor Toon, a Durham School of the Arts Alumni and Durham, North Carolina native and friend. Within 9 months Upon his return after serving back to back tours in Iraq/Kuwait and Afghanistan The Real Laww was nominated as Best Male Hip Hop artist of the year in the Carolina Music Awards and Won Video of The Year with International Laww directed by Johnny J. Jones. The Real Laww has also teamed up with Saleem Reshamwala (aka Kid ethnic) to create the first ever Zombie Rap Music Video "Professional Hater (Remix) Ft Toon".[2] The Real Laww has performed at Hopscotch Music Festival[3]. And Carrboro Music Festival.

The Real Laww has left his mark in Durham, North Carolina by creating the DURM Hip-Hop Summit [4] [5]. Only showcasing talent from around the triangle who are on top of their game. 2012 DURM Hip Hop Summit consisted of, Joshua Gunn, The Beast, Defacto Thezpian, Sarah Kaboom and Lazarus and Professor Toon. Along with a Freestyle Battle, Break Dancing, DJ spin off and Graffiti The Real Laww has shared the stage with De La Soul, Juicy J, Run the Jewels, King Mez, Mike Posner, Big Sean, Gym Class Heroes, Cherba, Ben Folds 5, Luego, Jessica Long, Baobab, Ground Up, A Cool Stick, Shane Mosely, Nyck Newz, Shelly B, Brandon D.,Rapsody Kooley High, Professor Toon, J Bully, Bubsy Millions, Pooh Bear.

The Real Laww has also raised awareness in the Biotech and Tech Community through his outreach and his performance at RTP180.

Music Philanthropist[edit]

The Real Laww has been described as a Music Philanthropist[6] , always giving back to his community through music. The Real Laww has hosted several benefit concerts where all the proceeds went to various establishments and groups to include The Wounded Warriors Project[7] , The Durham Rescue Mission[8] and dtownMARKET Durham reFASHIONED.

He has also assisted in many community projects including the Butterfly Community Garden and Thanksgiving in Spring.
