Justin Wilcox (born November 12, 1976, in Eugene, Oregon) is the defensive coordinator for the University of Tennessee Volunteers football team and the former defensive coordinator of the Boise State Broncos.
Early life[edit]
Justin Wilcox was born on November 12, 1976, in Eugene, Oregon. He played football while attending Junction City High School in Junction City, Oregon, before leaving to attend University of Oregon. While at UO, from 1995–1999, Wilcox played both safety and cornerback under Mike Belloti. Wilcox graduated from Univeristy of Oregon in 1999 with his bachelor's degree in anthropology. He then went on to work as a graduate assistant for Boise State from 2001–2002.[1][2][3] [4][5]
Coaching career[edit]
Boise State[edit]
Wilcox started coaching as an assistant at California. He became the defensive coordinator for the Boise State Broncos in 20?? and he coached there for four years. During that time, the Broncos led the WAC in both total defense and scoring defense.[4] Most notably, the Broncos began the 2009 season by playing the Pac-10 champion Oregon. In that game, Oregon did not gain a first down until the third quarter and was held to a total of 31 rushing yards.[1] The 2009 season ended with Boise State ranked 14th nationally in total defense en route to a perfect 14–0 season.[2]

After 2009, Wilcox was offered multiple coaching positions. Texas A&M and UT each offered Wilcox the position of defensive coordinator. Wilcox ended up withdrawing his name from the Teas A&M job before signing on with UT.[7]
At UT, Wilcox will be the highest paid assistant coach by making $600,000 in 2010.[8][9]
Personal life[edit]
Justin's father, Dave Wilcox, played for Oregon before going to the NFL as a linebacker. He would eventually earn a spot in the NFL Hall of Fame.[1]
