Jokin Ezkieta Mendiburu (born 17 August 1996) is a Spanish footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for FC Barcelona B on loan from CA Osasuna. He also represents Spain at under-19 level.
Club career
[edit]Born in Pamplona, Navarre, Ezkieta finished his formation with CA Osasuna, after a spell at UD Mutilvera.[1] He made his debuts as a senior with the reserves in the 2014–15 campaign, appearing in Tercera División.
Ezkieta was called up to the main squad on 9 January 2015, being named on the bench for a Segunda División game against Recreativo de Huelva, with the team suffering the effects of several injuries.[2] On the following day, however, he was only an unused substitute in the 1–1 draw at the Estadio Nuevo Colombino.[3]
On 31 March 2015, Ezkieta was confirmed as FC Barcelona B's first signing of the season, to join on 1 July initially on loan due to the club's transfer embargo. Although his contract had expired, Osasuna negotiated for there to be payments when certain milestones in his career had been reached.[4]
Style of play
[edit]Reporters likened Ezkieta to Belgium international goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, for his height and his quick reflexes.[4]
