Mitchell Kearney (born 1980 in Winston-Salem, NC) is a photographer

Life and Career[edit]

Kearney grew up in New Jersey, began his career in New York City, and eventually moved to Charlotte and found success as a commercial photographer.[1]

He got a B.A. in Theatre at Davidson College in 1984. Celebrities he has photographed include: Stiv Bators, William S. Burroughs, Cheetah Chrome, Maria Duval, Peter Gabriel, Debbie Harry, Juan Logan, Wynton Marsalis, Iggy Pop, Dee Dee Ramone, Joey Ramone, Johnny Ramone, Marky Ramone, Richard Rawlings, Lou Reed, Patti Smith, Andy Warhol, John Waters and Frank Zappa.[2]

In his home base of Charlotte, NC Mitchell has worked closely with many institutions, especially in the arts, including the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, the Levine Center for the Arts, McColl Center for Visual Art, the Mint Museum,[3] the NASCAR Hall of Fame and Opera Carolina.[4][5]

Mitchell Kearney was a teenage jazz drummer, which led to photographing local musicians. “One night in the fall of 1974, I walked into CBGB to see and photograph the Ramones. Before I could sneeze, Dee Dee barked out ‘1-2-3-4!’ and the buzz bomb of guitars, drums, and vocals which followed reset my understanding of live music forever.”[2]
