Marc Carroll is an Irish singer-songwriter, from Dublin. He is currently signed to One Little Indian Records.

Background[edit]

Carroll was born in Dublin in 1972 and now splits between the city and Los Angeles. He moved to London in 1988, aged 16, but returned to his hometown two years later, where he formed Puppy Love Bomb, a three piece influenced by Hüsker Dü[1]. He is influenced by the likes of Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys, The Byrds, Buzzcocks and The Velvet Underground and incorporates elements of folk, punk, country, blues and pop in his music. Both Brian Wilson and Bob Dylan are known to be fans, the latter featuring Carroll's cover of 'Gates Of Eden' on his official website[2].

Puppy Love Bomb and The Hormones[edit]

Signed to Rough Trade Records, Puppy Love Bomb enjoyed a brief career[3], which included support slots with Bob Mould's Sugar. During these shows, Carroll duetted with Mould on a version of 'Ticket To Ride'[4]. The band also played gigs with Hüsker Dü drummer and songwriter Grant Hart. In 1991, Rough Trade went bankrupt and folded, leaving Puppy Love Bomb labelless. They split shortly after and Carroll returned to London in 1995.

Back in England's capital, he formed The Hormones who went on to sign to V2 Records. They released one album, Where Old Ghosts Meet, in 1998 but this was deleted almost immediately and the group disbanded[5].

Solo Career[edit]

After The Hormones split, a short instrumental piece Carroll had composed was used on the hit TV show Friends, although he had never heard of the program at the time[6]. Shortly after, he signed a solo deal with Universal and recorded his first album Ten Of Swords in 1999. The record was never released by the label though and had to wait until 2003 to see the light of day, finally put out by Andrew Lauder's Evangeline label.

His next two albums, the lost songs and rarities compilation All Wrongs Reversed and World On A Wire, were also released on Evangeline, before Carroll set up his own label, High Noon[7], on which he released 2009's Dust Of Rumour and re-released all previous solo records.

Carroll signed to One Little Indian in 2011 and is currently working on a new album for the label, due in 2012. In the meantime, his four previous solo records are to be re-packaged and re-released, along with In Silence, a new compilation featuring select tracks from the back catalogue.[8]
