Week 6 Draft:

[edit]

Due to the numerous articles already present on Wikipedia about cuisine and history of smaller regions within Iberia, I am going to add to the Iberian Peninsula page on wikipedia. This article has no information on cuisine, agriculture or anything "food" related to the Iberian Peninsula. Below lists a brief outline of my plan to supplement this article and how I plan to format. Sources planned for each tab can be found linked to each tab title.

Goal 1: Create an Agriculture and Cuisine Heading:

[edit]

Agriculture and Cuisine

[edit]

Agriculture

[edit]

Under this heading I plan to broadly discuss agriculture in this region including exports, agricultural techniques and outside intervention.

Exports

[edit]

I plan to begin my "Exports" tab by giving information on what makes up the totality of Iberia's exports; giving a listen of crops and a percentage related to the amount of the region's exports it makes up. I then plan to attack this information from an economic perspective, giving information regarding profits recorded by each crop for the region.

Agricultural Techniques

[edit]

I am hopeful to also find statistics and information regarding the percentage of Iberia's farm land each crop takes up. I hope that this will give the reader a brief understanding and relation between the economics and land usage of Iberian agriculture. Then I plan to briefly talk about some of the few agricultural methods for cultivating and harvesting these crops that exist in the region. Links to these techniques will be embedded so wikipedia users can easily access articles that further elaborate on the processes. The information should give a brief overview of how Iberia deals with the demands of its exports as well as internal needs.

Outside Intervention

[edit]

I plan to either leave this as the first or last section of the agriculture tab. Within this tab I will address crops that are cultivated and harvested in Iberia which are not native to the region. For each crop I plan to give a brief explanation of how it arrived in one of the Iberian nations.

Cuisine

[edit]

Under this tab I plan to give information about Iberian Cuisine by talking about common ingredients or "staple foods" and culture.

Common Ingredients

[edit]

There are already many different articles that explain the expansive differences in cuisine from region to region and city to city, such as spanish cuisine, so this why I have instead decided to talk about broad similarities throughout the region such as wine, fish and rice.

Culture

[edit]

This tab will be created to talk about important facts about eating culture within the region. Unique culture to the region will be included such as tapas or la cocina in Spain. Brief explanations of these important meals and traditions will be given.

Desired Result

[edit]

To give a great, brief introduction to Iberian agriculture and cuisine. Articles such as spanish cuisine are formatted and written in a way to give a lot of specific details on a more microscopic level, this is why I have decided to contribute to this article instead, which is written more macroscopically and views the Iberian Peninsula very broadly. Giving much needed information on agriculture and cuisine, something incredibly unique and important to this region, to this broad page will also work as a "index" for accessing more detailed information throughout wikipedia. What I mean by this, is that links to other more specific articles will be included throughout my edit so that people who want more information can access these more detailed articles.

Goal 2 (if achievable): Add to the history heading of this article by including facts to tabs relating to important landmarks in Iberian agriculture and cuisine.

[edit]

With the History heading of this article are tabs such as "Roman Rule" and "Islamic Caliphate"; for which nothing about their impacts on the region's agricultural or cuisine is listed. I believe that I could at least write one or two paragraphs giving a brief overview of the most important impacts each of these groups had on the region's agriculture.
