Mt Sierra College (MSC; Chinese Translation as 蒙赛罗大学)is a private university located in Monrovia, Los Angeles County, California, United States. The college was established in 1990. Current majors include concentrations from areas within Media Arts and Design; Information technology, and Business [3]. Mt Sierra College is one of the approved American universities by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China [4].

History

January of 1990, Mt Sierra College was established in the city of Monrovia, California. During the early days of its existence, the College was known as Computer Technology Institute. Short courses in computer software applications were offered. In 1992, the College became a Novell Education Academic Partner and was authorized to offer Novell courses. In 1993, the College began its long-standing partnership with Microsoft and was authorized to offer Microsoft certification preparation courses [5]. In April of 1996, the College received accreditation by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) [6], and started offering degree courses in Telecommunications Technology, Multimedia Design Technology and Computer Information Technology. In the fall od 2002, Mt Sierra launched its first business degree program.

Mt Sierra College currently has about 500 students, International Students is about 1% of the total student population [7]. The College is relocating to a new campus in January 2016. The new campus is less than one mile away from the current campus, still within the city of Monrovia [8].

Accomplishments

Mt Sierra College is one of the first American universities got approved by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China [9], for more detailed information, please refer to the official website of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. 2015, the College hosted "Global Game Jam" together withUniversity of Southern California, and became the second largest Jam Site in Southern California to serve over 100 jammers [10]. 2015, the College was also voted as the San Gabriel Valley's Best, and received the Readers' Choice Awards [11].

Mt Sierra College has around 250 faculties, and 86% of the classes only has 2 to 9 students [12]. Visual Effects and Digital Videos' Lead Faculty, Laurel Klick, had won an Emmy Award in Visual Effects, and she filmography includes The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and The Terminator [13]. Mt Sierra College Gradate, Sean Dollins, had done visual effects for movies like The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol[14].
