Gordon Sparks (12 March 1961 - 16 October 2022) was a British broadcaster and sports commentator.
He was most notable for his work for BBC Radio Devon covering Plymouth Argyle F.C.
Early career
[edit]Sparks worked for radio stations Plymouth Sound and Hospital Radio Plymouth, working for the latter when he covered his first football match as a lead commentator - the 1984 FA Cup semi-final between Watford F.C. and Plymouth Argyle.
Career
[edit]Sparks joined BBC Radio Devon as a sports commentator, and later took over the Breakfast Show.
His last radio commentary was the 2016 League Two play-off final at Wembley Stadium. He later worked for Plymouth Argyle as a club ambassador.
Personal life
[edit]Sparks was a fan of the Cleveland Browns.
In 2005, Sparks was diagnosed with, and recovered from, testicular cancer.
In May 2022, Sparks revealed he had been diagnosed with cancer of the throat. He died in October 2022.
