Capital Bank is a community bank headquartered in Rockville, Maryland and a subsidiary of Capital Bancorp, Inc., with assets of $442 million and three branches in Maryland and the District of Columbia, plus a branch in Asheville, North Carolina.[1]

History[edit]

Capital Bank began in 1999 as a result of the perception that larger banks cared less about helping small businesses and individuals. The first branch moved in 2008 from Federal Plaza shopping center to Executive Boulevard in North Bethesda. A new corporate headquarters and main branch located on Church Street, and a third branch went near Farragut West Metro Station in Washington.[2]

In August 2011, Public Savings Bank of Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania failed and Capital Bank took it over.[3] The one branch closed in November because most people there did online banking.[4]

In 2012, American Eagle Savings Bank in Boothwyn, Pennsylvania failed and Capital Bank took it over, later conluding a Pennsylvania bank would be a better choice. DNB First bought the one branch, giving the bank its first presence in Delaware County.[5][4]

On May 10, 2013, Pisgah Community Bank in Asheville, North Carolina closed, reopening as Capital Bank on May 13.[1]
