From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Carolina Thread Trail is a network of greenways in North and South Carolina intended to connect tourist attractions.

History[edit]

The idea of the Carolina Thread Trail began in 2005 as a way to preserve natural areas and connect communities. The Foundation for the Carolinas and the Catawba lands Conservancy worked together on the project.[1] In October 2013, Karl Froelich took over the job of director from Ann Browning. As of 2014, 137 of 1400 planned miles of trail had opened, $50 million had been raised, and fourteen counties had master plans for their parts of the trail, based on 62 community plans.[2]
