Mthwakazi is a siNdebele name describing a collection of various tribes that were under Mzilikazi rule in the 18th century(in brief) . Now as it is commonly known, is a projected country to cede from Zimbabwe. This country will be called Mthwakazi Republic and will cover all Matebeleland provinces and some parts of Midlands provinces. Mthwakazi will be a country and Mthwakazians will be her citizens. This is what Mthwakazi Liberation Front and its followers are advocating for. Their reasons for ceding (secession) from Zimbabwe are that (1)Matebeleland and Midlands Provinces of Zimbabwe have been severe and deliberately marginalized by ruling Zanu PF government since independence from white rule in 1980. (2) More than 20 000 innocent and unarmed civilians from these provinces were massacred in the 1980s by Fifth Brigade under the instructions from the President. This massacre is known as Gukurahundi (3) The region has been systematically deprived of education, economy, development etc. Its resources and revenue is used to develop other provinces at the expense of locals (4)Unemployment and poverty is rife in these regions due to nepotism by people from other provinces.
