ipNX Nigeria Limited

ipNX (an acronym for Internet Protocol Networks) Nigeria Limited is a limited liability telecommunications company headquartered in Victoria Island, Lagos. They provide triple play residential, commercial and corporate voice and data communication services. They also provide Internet connectivity, virtual private network and ipTV.      

History

1987- Founding and Division

ipNX is an autonomous sister company of Telnet Nigeria Limited. Telnet Nigeria Limited, founded in 1987, was the then leading telecommunications and information company offering its services to both corporate and governmental organisations. Telnet continued to expand into other areas of information and communications technology as demand for technological services continued to grow. One of the main business growth areas was the infrastructure based services. ipNX therefore, naturally grew out of the infrastructure based section of Telnet Nigeria Limited.

1992- Deregulation

In 1992, the Federal Government of Nigeria deregulated the information and telecommunications industry through Decree 75 and the establishment of the Nigeria Communications Commission,  making it possible for private companies to provide telecommunication services. This was an opportunity for Telnet and of course, other companies to stake their claim on the telecommunication industry. 

2001- Separation

In 2001, Telnet separated the infrastructure based business of Telnet Network Services Limited from their engineering and information technology businesses into autonomous entities. The infrastructure based business which was warehoused in Telnet Network Services Limited, was spawned out of the Telnet Group and was renamed NETCO Services Limited.

2003- Name Change

Confusion arose about the name of the company NETCO because it was the same acronym as a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, so from April 2003 the name was changed and the company is now known as ipNX Nigeria Limited.

Fibre Optic Service

ipNX introduced the fibre optic service, to be able to have high speed internet at a lower cost. This service would be made available in their various branches in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano & Ibadan. This service is meant to guarantee high speed internet, clear voice calls, video calls and chatting without any buffering as well as vast downloading of videos

Fibre-to-the-home (FTTH), ipNX FoS

In 2013, ipNX announced they will be going further than just fibre optics services, but they will be the first telecommunication company in Nigeria to take fibre optics to individual homes. They would be the first to integrate the FTTH (Fibre-to-the-home) service.

 Fibre-to-the-home refers to a style of fibre optic cable technology that covers fibre optic cables from the network operator’s headquarters to a subscriber’s residence or business. Once within the subscriber’s home, the signals are often sent in any variety of ways including twisted pair (cable) or Wi-Fi to at the same time reach varied IP-enabled devices.

 The company’s chief executive; Ejovi Aror announced that as the cost of international bandwidth reduces it would enhance their services by making the speed faster and at lesser prices. This FTTH includes video conferencing, ipTV, and CCTV surveillance cameras.

Due to this development, the head of ipNX strategic marketing announced that services from the FTTH will be in motion under a new name FoS (Fibre optic Services).This service is presently accessible in certain areas of Victoria Island, Lagos Island, Lekki, Ikoyi and Ikeja GRA in the mainland of Lagos

Award

In 2014, ipNX earned the 2014 Nigerian Frost & Sullivan award for competitive strategy innovation and leadership. The launch of FTTH put Nigeria as one of the countries providing this service. This also reinforced the ipNX brand and position as a market leader.
