Castner murders (1843)
On May 1, 1843 three members of the Castner family were brutally murdered in their home in Changewater, New Jersey. A fourth person, a non-family member, was also severely injured but survived the attack. A trial held in September 1843 failed to convict anyone in connection with the murders. A subsequent trial found XXXX guilty of the murder of a different person, but also tied him/them to the Castner murders. XXXX was executed by hanging and was buried at a crossroads about a half-mile from the Castner murder scene.
