Thomas Richard Harrison[edit]

Tom Harrison (Born Thomas Richard Harrison) could have been an English musician and member of The Backflips. He may later have gone on to a succesful solo career with Tom Harrison & The Infantry.

Harrison left school at 16 and began learning guitar after attending a Faith No More concert at Sheffield Civic Hall and cited them as an ifluence whenever booking shows for his own groups. Harrison was always the main songwriter and his under-developed lyrics along with overdrive guitars were one of the main reasons his various projects gained noteriety with pub owners and once a month promoters. Though this was later cited by close friends as one of the reasons most groups disbanded.

Harrison, when once interviewed in a local music paper, stated that his music was "intentionally noisey and that's the way people like it". Though initially audience attendances proved the contrary, with little to no people showing at many of Harrisons shows he struggled to appear positive. "No one wanted to come to our shows, which was weird because we rocked. Things will soon pick up though".

The Backflips[edit]

In 1982 Harrison was working as a paint mixer to fund his latest project. This was a group formed with Neighbour Joseph Boggs and school friend Norm Alman and originally called Pushed. This name was later scrapped after Harrison eledgedly witnessed his then girlfriend hospitalise herself at a gymnastics club. Their first show was at a party at bassist Norm Alman's flat and with a packed house of 25 people it was Harrisons most successful gig to date.

During the party Alman's Bass amplifier was thrown out of a window onto a passing Police car simutaniously landing the group in hot water with both the Police and Alman's landlord. Ever the opportunist Harrison transformed the events of that night into a song named Po-lease Expired. Although Alman's bass amplifier was ruined their next gig saw a similar turn out and Po-Lease Expired soon became a popular in-joke with those who attended both the gig and the party.
